What apprentices build for manufacturing

Five workflows manufacturers ship inside a TESS apprenticeship — every learner builds against real telemetry and SCADA data.

Maintenance

Predictive maintenance from sensor data

Apprentices build models that flag bearings, pumps and motors before they fail — typical results: 25–40% unplanned-downtime reduction on legacy assets.

Quality

Vision-based quality control

Train teams to deploy computer-vision QA at the line speed your operators need — catching defects that operators miss after hour 6 of a shift.

Yield

Yield & OEE optimisation

Multivariate analysis to find the 3-4 process parameters that actually move yield — apprentices document the experiments and the gain.

Energy

Energy & utility optimisation

Forecast and shape energy demand against half-hourly prices — for SME manufacturers this typically saves 5–8% on energy bills inside year one.

Supply chain

S&OP automation

Apprentices replace fragile S&OP spreadsheets with reproducible forecasting pipelines — and document the handoff so the team doesn't slip back to manual.

Apprenticeship pathways for manufacturing

Three apprenticeship pathways for manufacturing roles — all levy-eligible, paced to fit shift patterns.

Frequently asked questions

Can shift workers fit the off-the-job hours?

Yes — we routinely deliver to 3-shift operations with a mix of pre-recorded learning, evening live sessions and protected on-site time agreed with the plant manager.

Do you need cloud infrastructure?

Not for the learning — we provide sandbox environments. For shipped projects, we'll work with your IT team to deploy into whatever environment you have (AWS, Azure, GCP or on-prem).

Will OT/IT integration be a blocker?

Often the biggest one — which is why module 4 of our L4 covers it head-on, with explicit guidance on Purdue model boundaries and read-only telemetry patterns.

How does this work with our existing CI / lean programme?

Apprenticeships fit cleanly inside a Kaizen / Six Sigma frame — the apprentice project becomes the 'data engine' for a CI workstream you'd run anyway.

Can we run on-site sessions at our plant?

Yes, once you hit 8+ learners we'll bring coaches to your site for 1-2 days per quarter as part of the cohort cadence.
