Coaching Professional Apprenticeship Level 5 Overview

There has been a growing demand for the professionalisation of coaching to include one-to-one coaching, team coaching, leadership coaching and for coaching skills to be embedded within culture and governance infrastructures to support future ways of working. This occupation is found in private, public and third sector national and multinational organisations and employers. It is found in every sector across the country including, for example; the health sector, finance sector, engineering and manufacturing sectors, business and professional services, education sector, retail sector, leisure sector, technology sector and construction.

Coaching is a way of treating people, a way of thinking and a way of being which is seen as vital to supporting individuals and organisations in increasingly volatile and ever-changing environments. The underlying and ever-present purpose of coaching is building the self-belief of others, regardless of the context, to be curious and self-aware, better equipping them to collaborate, innovate, deal with the increasing pace of change and get the best from increasingly diverse environments. Effective coaching is future-focused, releases potential, and enables transition, transformation and change for business improvement.

Actions and guidance to ensure the achievement of set goals. Working in the private, public or third sector and in all sizes of organisation, specific responsibilities will vary, but the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed will be the same whatever the role.

Key responsibilities are likely to include supporting, managing and developing team members, managing projects, planning and monitoring workloads and resources, delivering operational plans, resolving problems, and building relationships internally and externally.

Details Of The Programme

This apprenticeship usually takes 14 months to complete during which you will participate in training, development and on-going review activities. This apprenticeship covers the professional behaviours, knowledge and skills that are required of a Coaching Professional:

  • The art of learning and self awareness
  • Why Coach: Coaching theories, organisational culture and Diversity & Inclusion
  • Methods of Communication, Goal Setting and Theories of Relationship Management
  • How to Coach: Coaching models, coaching and feedback techniques and psychological approaches
  • Differences & Similarities between coaching, training, mentoring counselling and consulting
  • Relevant legislation including Data Protection & Safeguarding
  • Evaluation and Return on Investment

The End Point Assessment Process

Assessment Gateway

After a minimum of 12 months on the programme, at the assessment gateway, your employer will make the decision that you are ready to undertake the endpoint assessment.
Before going forward for endpoint assessment, you must have:

  • The employer is satisfied the apprentice is consistently working at, or above, the level of the occupational standard.
  • English and mathematics level 2 (if not already attained)
  • Apprentices must complete a portfolio of evidence
End Point Assessment

Following successful completion of the Gateway, you will proceed to endpoint assessment (EPA).
The EPA is undertaken by an independent assessment organisation.
The End Point assessment components are:

  • Observation with Q&A
  • Interview supported by portfolio evidence
  • Knowledge test

All components of the endpoint assessment must be completed and an endpoint assessment grade will be determined by the endpoint assessor.
